    What is ACT?

The ACT, or American College Testing, is a standardized test widely used in college admissions in the United States that assesses a student’s academic readiness. It is also recognized by international educational institutions.

Beginning in February 2024, the ACT offers online and paper-based versions of the test, with the structure, questions, duration, and results remaining the same.

The ACT is administered seven times a year. The test can be taken up to 12 times, and it is recommended that you take the test in your junior year to have the opportunity to retake it.

The test tests a variety of skills in English, math, reading, and science.

The ACT is scored on a scale of 1 to 36 in each section, and the overall composite score is the average of these four sections. No penalties are given for incorrect answers.
The optional Writing (Essay) section is scored separately on a scale of 2 to 12 points. The essay provides additional information about your writing skills but does not affect your overall ACT score.

Results are valid for five years, and you can request score reports for colleges and scholarships even after you complete the test.

    Structure of the ACT

The ACT, a standardized test lasting 2 hours and 55 minutes, comprises four mandatory multiple-choice sections: English, Math, Reading, and Science, totaling 215 questions. Additionally, candidates opting for the optional Writing section have an extra 30-40 minutes to craft an essay, making it a comprehensive assessment of academic skills.

The English section (75 questions) assesses understanding of written work, rhetorical aspects, logical organization, language proficiency, grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation.

The Mathematics section (60 questions) evaluates knowledge of geometry rules, number properties, calculations, formulas, and problem-solving strategies.

The Reading section (40 questions) tests the ability to identify main ideas, interpret details, understand sequences, make comparisons, determine meaning, analyze claims, and integrate information from multiple texts.

The Science section (40 questions) assesses skills in recognizing relationships in data, interpreting results, and comparing alternative viewpoints or hypotheses.

The Writing section involves a single writing assignment where students articulate their perspective on a complex issue, analyze its relationship with other perspectives, support ideas with arguments and examples, and communicate effectively in standard written English.
