English lessons shaped around the learner

A child learning first words and a newcomer getting ready for a job interview need very different lessons. Your tutor plans around the learner’s age, level and goals.

How we teach

Lessons are mostly conversation. You learn new words and grammar by using them, not by memorising lists.

  • Learn English as a Second Language

    Through conversation

We use the communicative method: new language is introduced and practised in real conversation with your tutor, so you start speaking from the first lesson.

    About the communicative method →
  • Learn English as a Second Language

    Built on the CEFR

The programme follows the Common European Framework of Reference, so your level and progress are measured from A1 to C2 on an international scale.

What parents and learners tell us

My son is 6 years old, and he clearly liked the game format of the lesson. He says that kindergarten is boring, but here it’s cool. I can hear how his vocabulary is increasing and sentence construction is improving.

I decided to change jobs and try my hand at IT, but I couldn’t learn English for this field on my own. eTalk has teachers who specialize in it. My colleagues notice my progress, and I keep learning.

This school is good for children with zero knowledge of English. A step-by-step approach, everything is explained clearly, and a lot of practice in communication and grammar.

Convenient platform. You can choose the day and time of the lesson yourself. With the teachers you can both laugh and seriously discuss exercises. Everything is clear and interesting.

Questions about English lessons

What happens in the trial lesson?

Your tutor gets to know the learner, checks their English level through conversation and short activities, and talks through goals. With young children the lesson is playful, with pictures, games and movement. Adults can bring real situations they want to practise.

At the end you’ll get a recommendation for the level and the kind of lessons that will help most.

How long are the lessons?

Lessons are 30 minutes for children aged 5–12, and 60 minutes or longer for older students and adults.

How much do English lessons cost?

English tutor rates depend on the tutor: from 15 USD up to 60 USD per hour. You start with a trial lesson, then choose a subscription or a package.

Who are the tutors?

Experienced, qualified teachers from around the world, in two categories: Near Native and Native Speaker. We match the learner with a tutor who fits their level, age and goals, or you can browse English tutors yourself.

What level do I need to start?

Any level, from complete beginner to advanced. If you’re not sure where you are, take our free placement test or let the tutor check it in the trial.

Can you help me prepare for an English exam?

Yes. Tutors prepare students for IELTS, TOEFL, CELPIP, Duolingo English Test and Cambridge exams, with practice tasks and feedback on speaking and writing.

What do we need for the lesson?

A laptop or tablet with a camera, a microphone and a stable internet connection, plus a quiet spot. Lessons run in the browser, so there’s nothing to install.
